The RIDE ALONG 2 sequel picks up about a year after our heroes' last adventure. Plans for a quick trip to Miami go bad. With the wedding upcoming, James reluctantly takes Ben with him to Miami to follow up on a lead connected to a drug ring case he's been trying to crack. In Miami, they meet Maya, a no-BS homicide detective who lets them know Miami is her turf. They also encounter AJ, a shady cocky computer hacker who reveals evidence that implicates a well-respected local businessman, the wealthy Antonio Pope. Pope harbors a vicious streak and rules South Florida's drug trade. If Ben and James can convince the authorities that Pope is a brutal crime boss they'll stop his spree. If they fail, well there may not be a wedding after all. As his wedding day approaches, Ben heads to Miami with his soon-to-be brother-in-law James to bring down a drug dealer who's supplying the dealers of Atlanta with product. I didn't think a great deal of the first "Ride Along" movie, though I will admit it did have a few slightly amusing gags as well as appealing performances by Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. However, what helped to make the first movie watchable is almost entirely missing in this sequel. Although Ice Cube does manage to be fairly likable once again, Kevin Hart this time around manages to be extremely annoying for the most part. In fairness to Hart, much of this blame for this falls to how director Tim Story and the screenplay force him to act rather than due to his acting skills. Speaking of the screenplay, the story once again is pretty predictable; I guessed a lot what would happen long before it actually did. That wouldn't have been a problem had the movie been funny, but it really isn't. While there are a few minor amusing moments here and there, the majority of the humor is tired and very familiar; you'll have seen much of it before in other comedies. With both the story and the humor being so predictable, this sequel offers essentially nothing new to viewers. After the success of Ride Along comes along this lukewarm retread with less plot and less funny lines.<br/><br/>Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are still the prospective brothers in law to be but Hart is a probationary police officer. An interesting beginning as Hart ends up being responsible for Cube's partner, Tyrese Gibson getting shot.<br/><br/>After that the plot moves to Miami where the two head off to find a hacker, Ken Jeong who is there to trade comedy with Hart while Cube can get on with the main plot of taking down a crime lord, Benjamin Bratt.<br/><br/>There are a few amusing scenes, the pair trade insults and banter with each other as Hart desperately tries to impress Cube. There is some decent action in the last part of the movie but it just feels like a lazily inspired sequel that brings nothing new to the table. With a storyline less challenging than that of a typical CBS crime procedural, Ride Along 2 is little more than a repetitive rehash of the original.
